GLOSSARY
Alteration
An alteration is a change to an existing building that leaves its footprint and structure in place. In the records we hold the term covers interior reconfiguration, and work that adjusts how a space is used without adding to it.
Detail
About Alteration
An alteration set shows the areas affected and the elements being changed, and it distinguishes the new work from what stays. Scope is set by the systems the change touches, since moving a partition can pull in lighting, sprinklers and air distribution. Alteration is often recorded with interior alteration, tenant improvement and remodel on the same address.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"alteration" appears in 9,529 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
