GLOSSARY

Elevator

An elevator is a car that moves people or goods between levels inside a shaft, driven by cables, hydraulics or a machine-room-less unit. In the records we hold the term covers the car, the shaft, the machine space and the doors at each landing.

About Elevator

Drawings show the shaft dimensions and its pit and overhead clearances, the machine or controller location, the landing door openings and the car's rated load. Scope is driven by the travel and the number of stops, and by whether the shaft is new or existing. Elevator records commonly appear with stair, ramp and multifamily headings.

FLORIDA PERMIT DATA

In the records

"elevator" appears in 2,108 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.

A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
