FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
What this page is based on
Data through August 2026
- Matching records in our dataset
- 2,663,640
- Permit terms covered
- 398
The records come from a selected set of Florida jurisdictions with unequal coverage, and every number on this page is scoped to them. How we count.
Evidence
The categories that dominate the count
Roofing, mechanical work and openings account for the largest share of the records. These are the parts of a building that are replaced during its life rather than built once, and they are the permits a property owner is most likely to pull at some point.
A large count in one of these categories is a statement about how often the work is filed, not about how large or how valuable it is.
- Roofing & Roof Systems
- 607,749
- HVAC & Mechanical Systems
- 485,290
- Windows, Doors & Glazing
- 356,662
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
Where the architecture sits
The categories an architect draws are present in quantity as well, but they are a smaller share of the whole: new homes, additions and alterations, pools and outdoor structures, garages and accessory buildings.
That is the reason this site is organised the way it is. The records are broad; the services here are the part of that work that needs drawings, a code path and a sealed set.
- Single-Family, Duplex & Manufactured Housing
- 296,858
- New Construction & Expansion
- 87,512
- Remodel, Alteration & Interior Buildout
- 81,660
- Pools, Spas & Aquatic Features
- 117,956
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
A big count is not a recommendation
A category with many records is a category with many filings. It does not say the work is expensive, difficult or worth doing, and it does not rank one trade above another.
Where a share is shown, it is a share of the records we analyzed. Because one permit can match several categories, shares do not sum to a whole.
