GLOSSARY

Impact Window

An impact window is a window built with laminated glass and a heavy frame so that it resists wind-borne debris without a shutter. In the Florida permit records we analyzed it appears both as a new installation and as a replacement of an older window.

About Impact Window

The schedule for an impact window names the unit size, the laminated glass make-up and the frame, and the drawings show how the frame is anchored and flashed into the wall. Scope is driven by the openings being changed and by whether they keep their size, because the surrounding wall and header only change when the opening does. Impact windows and impact doors are often recorded together as one envelope upgrade.

FLORIDA PERMIT DATA

In the records

"impact window" appears in 29,761 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.

A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
