GLOSSARY
Shutter
A shutter is a storm-protection assembly, whether a removable panel, an accordion, a roll-down or a hinged pair, that covers an opening against wind-borne debris. In the Florida permit records we analyzed the term covers permanent systems and the tracks or anchors that hold removable panels.

About Shutter
Shutter drawings name the product and its rating, then show every opening it protects, because the protection has to be matched to the glazing behind it. Scope turns on whether the shutter is fixed, roll-down or stored, and on how the panels are anchored into the wall. Shutters are frequently recorded alongside impact windows and doors as one envelope upgrade.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"shutter" appears in 42,438 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
