GLOSSARY

New Building

A new building is a structure recorded from the start of its construction, as distinct from work on a building that already stands. In the records we hold the term appears where the scope is the whole building rather than a portion of one.

About New Building

A new building record carries the full set of drawings: site work, foundation, structure, envelope, floor plans and the building's systems. Scope is set by the occupancy the building is designed for and by the site it goes on. New building records commonly appear with new construction, shell building and slab headings.

FLORIDA PERMIT DATA

In the records

"new building" appears in 877 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.

A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
