GLOSSARY
Single-Family Residence
A single-family residence is a detached dwelling built for one household. It is the most common structure in the Florida permit records we analyzed, and the term covers both a new house and the additions, repairs and system replacements recorded against an existing one.

About Single-Family Residence
Most single-family work in our Florida permit dataset is tied to an address rather than a project name, so the term gathers roofing, window, pool and addition records under one heading. A drawing set for a new house shows the site plan, the foundation and framing, the roof geometry and the exterior openings. For work on an existing house, the scope usually turns on how much of the structure is opened up and whether the change touches the building envelope or a load-bearing element.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"single-family residence" appears in 253,189 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
