GLOSSARY

Renovation

A renovation is the renewal of an existing building's finishes, systems or layout without changing what the building is. In the records we hold the term is used for upgrades that go beyond repair but stop short of new space.

About Renovation

A renovation set shows the areas being reworked, the finishes and systems being replaced, and any change to the layout inside the existing walls. Scope tends to be set by how far the work reaches: a cosmetic refresh touches finishes, while a deeper renovation opens walls and replaces services. Renovation is often recorded with remodel, alteration and change of use on the same building.

FLORIDA PERMIT DATA

In the records

"renovation" appears in 11,752 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.

A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
