GLOSSARY
Solar
Solar refers to photovoltaic panels and the equipment that turns sunlight into electricity, mounted on a roof or on the ground. In the records we hold the term covers the array, its mounting, the inverter and the connection to the building's electrical system.
Detail
About Solar
Solar drawings show the array layout and how it is attached or ballasted, the roof or ground mounting, the inverter and disconnect locations, and the route of the conductors to the service. Scope is driven by the size of the array and by whether it is roof-mounted or ground-mounted, since the mounting and the structural questions differ. Solar records commonly appear with inverter, battery storage, pool heater and single-family residence headings.

In the records
"solar" appears in 102,183 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
