GLOSSARY
After the Fact
After the fact is the label used for work recorded after it has already been built, often written as unpermitted or no-permit work. In the records we hold the term describes the timing of the record, not a different kind of construction.

About After the Fact
An after-the-fact record carries the same scope as the work it describes, but it starts from what exists rather than from a set of drawings. Because of that, the record usually includes a survey or documentation of the built condition so the work can be measured against the standard that applies. After-the-fact records commonly appear with code compliance, demolition and remodel headings.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"after the fact" appears in 3,240 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
