GLOSSARY

Awning

An awning is a fabric or metal cover that projects from a wall over a window, a door or a walkway. In the records we hold the term covers the awning, its frame and the anchors that hold it to the wall.

About Awning

Drawings show the awning's width and projection, the frame, and how the anchors are fixed into the wall or the structure behind the cladding. Scope is driven by the span being covered and by whether the awning retracts, since a retractable unit carries its own housing and drive. Awning records commonly appear with canopy, sign and window replacement headings.

FLORIDA PERMIT DATA

In the records

"awning" appears in 1,559 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.

A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
