GLOSSARY
Balcony
A balcony is a platform that projects from a building at an upper level, with a guard around its open sides. In the records we hold the term covers the structure, the door or window that opens onto it, and the guard and railing.

About Balcony
Balcony drawings show the framing and how it ties back into the building, the waterproofing and drainage of the walking surface, and the guard and its anchorage. Scope is driven by the height above grade and by whether the balcony sits over occupied space, since that affects the waterproofing detail. Balcony records commonly appear with porch, deck and stair headings.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"balcony" appears in 2,904 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
