GLOSSARY
Deck
A deck is an elevated or ground-level platform, usually wood or composite, built onto a house or standing free. In the records we hold the word covers the walking surface, the frame beneath it and the guard around it.

About Deck
A deck drawing shows the post and footing layout, the joist and beam spacing, the board direction and the guard and stair details. Scope is driven by height above grade, because a raised deck needs a deeper foundation and a guard built to the same standard. Where a deck meets a screened enclosure or a pool, the two are often recorded together.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"deck" appears in 65,048 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
