GLOSSARY

Block Wall

A block wall is a wall built from concrete masonry units, either free-standing or part of a building. In the records we hold the term covers the wall, its footing or bond beam, and the reinforcement inside it.

About Block Wall

Block wall drawings show the wall line and height, the footing or slab it rises from, the reinforcing and grout, and the pilasters that stiffen it. Scope turns on whether the wall carries a load or only its own weight, since a free-standing wall is designed for wind. Block wall records commonly appear with CMU, masonry and fence headings.

FLORIDA PERMIT DATA

In the records

"block wall" appears in 1,363 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.

A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
