GLOSSARY
Retaining Wall
A retaining wall holds back soil where the ground changes level, so that the higher ground does not move onto the lower. In the records we hold the term covers the wall, its footing and the drainage behind it.
Detail
About Retaining Wall
Retaining wall drawings show the wall's height and section, the footing or embedment, the reinforcement, and the drain and backfill behind the wall. Scope is driven by the height of the soil it holds, since a taller wall carries much greater loads and may need soil reinforcement or a thicker section. Retaining wall records commonly appear with block wall, fence and drainage headings.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"retaining wall" appears in 4,885 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
