GLOSSARY
CMU
CMU stands for concrete masonry unit, the hollow block used for walls, foundations and structural fill. In the records we hold the term covers block walls, their reinforcement and the grout that fills the cores where it is needed.

About CMU
Masonry drawings show the block layout, the reinforcement and grout at each cell, the lintels over openings, and how the wall is tied to the frame. Scope turns on what the wall carries, because a block wall that supports a roof is reinforced differently from a garden wall. CMU records commonly appear with masonry, block wall and concrete headings.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"CMU" appears in 2,411 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
