GLOSSARY
Foundation
A foundation is the structural system that transfers a building's weight to the ground, whether that is a slab, a stem wall, piles or piers. In the records we hold the term also covers repair and underpinning work on an existing foundation.

About Foundation
Foundation drawings give the layout, the depth and bearing of each element, the reinforcement and the connection to the structure above. Scope turns on whether the work is new construction or a repair, because a repair starts from whatever is already in the ground. Foundation records frequently carry pier, footing, slab and concrete headings.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"foundation" appears in 11,747 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
