GLOSSARY
Column
A column is a vertical member that carries a load down to a footing, in concrete, masonry, steel or timber. In the records we hold the term covers the column, its base and the connection to whatever it supports.

About Column
Structural drawings give each column's size, its position, its reinforcement or section, and the footing that receives it. Scope is driven by the load above and by whether the column is part of a building frame or a light structure such as a carport or screen enclosure. Columns are frequently recorded with beam, footing and concrete headings.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"column" appears in 5,410 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
