GLOSSARY

Footing

A footing is the widened base at the bottom of a wall, column or pier that spreads its load into the ground. In the records we hold the term appears on its own for foundation repair and alongside the structures it supports.

About Footing

A footing drawing gives its size, its depth below grade, its reinforcement and the soil bearing it is designed for. Scope turns on what the footing carries, because a footing under a screen enclosure post is a different detail from one under a building wall. Footings are frequently recorded with concrete, foundation and slab work.

FLORIDA PERMIT DATA

In the records

"footing" appears in 15,577 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.

A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
