GLOSSARY

Conversion

A conversion is a change that turns space designed for one use into another, such as a garage into living space or a house into offices. In the records we hold the term covers the structural, envelope and system work the new use requires.

Detail

About Conversion

A conversion set shows the existing space, the proposed use and the changes needed to serve it, including egress, ventilation, plumbing and any new separation between uses. Scope is usually driven by how different the new use is, since a change of occupancy can add requirements that a like-for-like remodel does not. Conversion records commonly appear with change of use, garage and plumbing headings.

FLORIDA PERMIT DATA

In the records

"conversion" appears in 5,193 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.

A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
