GLOSSARY
Extension
An extension is an addition that continues an existing building rather than standing as a separate volume, often pushing out a wall or a roofline. In the records we hold the term also covers a run of paving, pipe or wall that reaches further than before.

About Extension
An extension drawing shows where the new work meets the existing structure, the foundation under the new portion, and the roof or surface tie-in. Scope is driven by how far the building or surface grows and by whether the existing structure has to be opened to receive it. Extension records commonly appear with addition, concrete and deck headings.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"extension" appears in 6,640 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
