GLOSSARY

Exterior Wall

An exterior wall separates the inside of a building from the weather, carrying the cladding, the insulation and the openings. In the records we hold the term covers work on that wall, from a repair to a rebuild.

Detail

About Exterior Wall

Wall sections show the layers of the assembly, the flashing at openings and at the base, and how the wall ties to the floor and roof structure. Scope turns on whether the wall is load-bearing, since removing or widening a section of a bearing wall changes the structure above. Exterior wall records commonly appear with stucco, siding, window replacement and framing headings.

FLORIDA PERMIT DATA

In the records

"exterior wall" appears in 1,846 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.

A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
