GLOSSARY
Pier
A pier is a vertical support that carries a load down to a footing or into the ground, in masonry, concrete or timber. In the records we hold the term covers foundation piers and the piers that carry a dock or a raised structure.

About Pier
Drawings give each pier's size, spacing and depth, the footing or embedment that anchors it, and the beam or structure it carries. Scope is driven by the load and by the ground conditions, since a pier that reaches firm soil or rock is built differently from one that relies on friction. Pier records commonly appear with foundation, beam and dock headings.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"pier" appears in 3,435 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
