GLOSSARY
Joist
A joist is a repeated horizontal member that carries a floor or ceiling between beams or walls. In the records we hold the term covers the joists, their hangers or bearing, and the sheathing or ceiling fixed to them.

About Joist
Framing plans give the joist size, spacing and span, the direction they run, and the blocking and bridging between them. Scope is driven by the span and the load, since a longer span or a heavier floor finish changes the member. Joist records commonly appear with beam, framing and ceiling headings.
FLORIDA PERMIT DATA
In the records
"joist" appears in 599 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.
A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
