GLOSSARY

Marina

A marina is a waterfront facility with berths, docks and the services that support boats and their owners. In the records we hold the term covers the docks and pilings, the service buildings and the utilities run out to the berths.

About Marina

Marina drawings show the dock and slip layout, the piling and gangway arrangement, the utilities and fire protection at the water, and the land-side buildings. Scope is driven by which part of the facility is being worked on, since a dock replacement and a clubhouse fit-out are different projects. Marina records commonly appear with dock, boat lift and seawall headings.

FLORIDA PERMIT DATA

In the records

"marina" appears in 817 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.

A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
