GLOSSARY

Terrace

A terrace is a flat, paved outdoor surface, often raised and sometimes on a roof or a podium. In the records we hold the term covers the paving, the structure that carries it, and the drainage and guards around it.

About Terrace

Terrace drawings show the deck build-up, the slope to the drains, the waterproofing membrane beneath, and the guard or parapet at the edge. Scope is driven by whether the terrace sits on grade or over occupied space, since an elevated terrace depends on its membrane. Terrace records commonly appear with deck, balcony and waterproofing headings.

FLORIDA PERMIT DATA

In the records

"terrace" appears in 1,498 matching permits in the Florida records we analyzed.

A permit can match more than one term, so these counts are not additive and adding two of them together overstates the total.
